Organic Sector Issues Seminar

Organic Council of Ontario / Le Conseil Biologique de l'Ontario The Organic Council of Ontario hosts a seminar for farmers and stakeholders on the issues affecting organics in Ontario.

The Organic Council of Ontario represents all facets of organics, connecting closely with OMAFRA and linking Ontario with the national scene through membership in the Organic Federation of Canada. This session will outline the purpose and mandate of the Council and identify the key challenges that face the sector. Join us for engaging discussions that include:

Direct market opportunities for Ontario organics: Dorene Collins, OMAFRA, Philip Powell, Farmers Markets of Ontario, Tom Waller, Elm Tree Farm, Christina Anderman, Ottawa Valley Food Co-op.

Roundtable discussion:  What is holding us back?  Group discussions on producer needs and issues.

The new Canadian Regulatory Regime: Where is the industry headed? Has the organic movement been taken over by big business and government? Facilitated by Ted Zettel.

Organic Farmer Profile: Ron McCoy, Sunny Crest Farm.

Building strong networks: OCO’s pilot project to fund production clubs in Ontario.

Organic research:  the results of your comments on priorities in organic research. Presenter: Andy Hammermeister, Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada.
