2016 is International Year of Pulses (IYP)

Declared by the 68th UN General Assembly, 2016 is International Year of Pulses

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations defines pulses as leguminous crops harvested solely as dry grain for both food and feed.

While being part of a healthy diet, pulses are also beneficial to the environment as they have nitrogen-fixing properties which contribute to increasing soil fertility and, as they are a low carbon source of protein.
