Where Are We Located and Why is Our Location So Unique?
COG Prince Edward County Chapter (PECOG) is located in southeastern Ontario on the Bay of Quinte from Brighton to Kingston. The Quinte Area is renowned for its sailing and fishing as well as the giant sand dunes and the 800 km of spectacular coastline on the Quinte Island.
The unique landscape of Prince Edward County and surrounding areas, with its migrating birds sanctuaries and the unusually rich spectrum of plant life, is sensitive to increasing numbers of corporate farms and the increasingly urban environment.
Goals of the COG Prince Edward County Chapter
Formed in 2002, we promote organic farming for better health, cleaner environment, a humane way to supply food and to protect farmers as well as consumers from pesticides and genetically modified foods.
It is our goal to educate, inform and support farmers, gardeners, consumers and the entire rural community. We are dedicated to preserving our land for future generations, to taking care of the environment and to enabling the supply of healthy, GMO-free and nutrient-rich organic food for everybody.
What We Do
We exchange knowledge and ideas at regular monthly potluck meetings, at which a topic, related to organic growing and husbandry is discussed.
Events like seedling and seed exchange, the garlic festival and the Taste of the County Festival are some of the events where we actively promote the organic movement and inform the consumer and the public.
Benefits of Membership
We welcome everybody who wants to be informed, wants to learn and wants to share knowledge about organic growing. Membership includes quarterly issues of The Canadian Organic Grower, free use of the COG library , exchange of knowledge and learning from experienced growers, lots of fun times and being a part of the Canadian organic movement.
