GLOUCESTER COMMUNITY GARDENS
A set of shared gardens operated by the Gloucester Allotment Garden Association. When the site opens, make sure to click on the two buttons labelled 'Garden Tips' and 'Links'. The button labelled 'Photo Album' is also of general interest.

BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE STUDY GROUP
A Biodynamic Agriculture Study Group will be forming to read and discuss Rudolf Steiner’s agriculture lectures. These lectures are the foundation of biodynamic agriculture, a growing movement to heal the earth while providing nutritious food for human beings and other species. Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month beginning January 17, 2008, at Riverglen Farm. Information: Linnea at (613) 596-0551.
ORGANIC PRODUCERS CLUB
Market gardeners, farmers, and wannabes in the Perth-Lanark area are invited to a new study group formed in December 2008. The Organic Producers Club will be studying various topics including earthworms, soil, compost, crop rotations, biodynamics, seed saving, and whatever is of interest to the group. It follows the ongoing saga of Michael Schmidt ( Glencolton Farms ) and the community of cowshare members and cow lovers who have come together around this issue of raw milk access. Genetically modified foods are linked to toxic and allergic reactions, sick, sterile, and dead livestock, and damage to virtually every organ studied in lab animals. (See summary in Genetic Roulette.) They are banned by food manufacturers in Europe and elsewhere, yet GMOs are present in the vast majority of processed foods in the US. See a worthwhile video (1hr 24m) by expert Jeffrey M. Smith, author of Seeds of Deception, and his unsettling information about GM foods here.

Novella Carpenter is the author of Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer (Penguin Press 2009). A self-proclaimed “child of back-to-the-land hippies,” she began to cultivate her downtown California home, starting with a few chickens and some bees. Today, to the amazement of her neighbours, Novella is operating a full-scale urban farm. See Novella's Blog here.

Jo VanEvery and Matthew Paterson have been gradually increasing the amount of food they produce for several years. When they outgrew their large city garden, they moved to Lanark County and added chickens and pigs to their repertoire. Jo occasionally blogs about their life here.
